"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse"

An immortal line delivered by the the main character himself.  The film started out with the marriage of Don Corleone's daughter, thus giving his son Michael  a reason to come home from the war.  People flock to Don Corleone as a last resort -- and a sure one for that matter.  Everybody knew his unorthodox methods of handling things and the results he gave were more than satisfying. In effect, special requests come in bunches in exchange for anything. This gave birth to his reference as a Godfather.

A rival of the family intended to sell drugs and needed the influence of the Godfather. However, he  refused and this started a family feud. Troubles followed after his non-participation and much worse, the Don is aging.  His health is troubled and he soon needs to appoint his "throne" to one of his sons. In the beginning,  the eldest son displayed the guts of leading the family but due to a series of events, that possibility became blurred.  The happenings that followed resulted to Michael's abrupt change of character.  Initially, Michael was decided to live a life completely different from his family's business. He was a mild-mannered person until he was left with no choice but to stand up for his family. His fear lead him to a switch in persona and paved way to his unsolicited participation with the family's business.  We can see this similar plot in Star Wars where the good guy turns to the dark side because of his fear for his mother's life.

Violence and action scenes is not the key factor for making this motion picture a hit.  The great screen writer Mario Puzo and the legendary director Francis Ford Coppola tandem is a winning combination. Also take into account the perfect synergy of a great  musical score, excellent cast, and the story itself. What sprung from the success of this movie is a part II wherein the early career and life of Don Vito Corleone is told.

Some say it's the greatest movie of all time not just the best gangster flick. It is one-of-a kind and belongs to the number one spot in a list of classic movies. One thing is for sure: You don't know what you're missing!

Score: 5 out of 5 is what it deserves.
